Change your password
Changing a password takes the old one and the new one, on the Account page. It signs out everywhere else and leaves you signed in here.
Last updated 25 August 2026. Stuck on something this does not cover: [email protected].
Before you start
- Your current password — unless the account was made with Google, which has none.
- If you have forgotten it, this is the wrong article: use Forgot your password? on the sign-in page. See When you cannot sign in.
Steps
Open Account and find Password
It is in the Profile section, under the email address. The form is collapsed behind a Change password button until you ask for it.
Fill in both boxes
Current password, then the new one. Length is the only rule — at least ten characters. A few words you will actually remember beats one word with a number stuck on the end.
Save
It has a save of its own rather than a page-wide one. If something is wrong, the message appears under the boxes — a wrong current password and a too-short new one read differently.
What happens next
- Your other devices are signed out, which is the point of changing it. This one stays signed in.
- If the account also has Google linked, that still works — changing a password does not touch it.
If something goes wrong
Each row is what you see on screen. Symptoms are worded the way the app words them, so the sentence in front of you should be findable on this page.
- There is no password section on the Account page
- The account was created through Google and has no password. A Change password control appears only where there is something to change; adding one is offered instead, and it does not ask for a current password, because the session is already the proof.
- It says the current password is wrong
- Reset it instead: sign out and use Forgot your password? on the sign-in page. A reset does not need the old one.
- It says the new password is too short
- Ten characters is the minimum and the only rule. Nothing requires a symbol or a digit.
- You were signed out on your phone straight after
- Expected, and the reason to change a password in the first place. Sign in there with the new one.
Next
- When you cannot sign in — Wrong password, unconfirmed address, too many attempts, or an account with no password at all — how to tell which.
- Sign in with Google — Use a Google account instead of a password, or add it to an account you already have.
- Create your account — Sign up, confirm your email, and start the trial. Three steps, and the middle one is the one people miss.
