Attach files to an item

Before you start

• The files themselves, on the device you are using. There is no upload from a phone by text — texting in makes notes only.

Steps

1. Pick Files in the composer

   Choosing Files hands you straight to the full editor, because one text box has nowhere to put a file picker. That is the handoff working, not a misclick.

2. Add the files

   Add files opens the picker; choose several at once if you like. Each one is listed with its size and marked *will upload*.

   The limits are ten files per item and ten megabytes per file, any type. A file that is too big is named individually; going over the count is reported once, because listing ten names to say "that is too many" tells you nothing.

3. Save

   Files upload on save, not on pick. Abandoning a half-built item leaves nothing behind in storage, and a large file means a save that takes a moment.

4. Download from the card

   Each file on the card is a link. Clicking it downloads it under its original name, which is kept for exactly that purpose.

What happens next

• The item sits on the board like any other and can be tagged, pinned and archived.
• Editing replaces the whole set: any attachment not in the list when you press Save is deleted from storage. Removing a file is done by taking it out of the list and saving.
• Archiving keeps the files — archiving is reversible. Deleting the item deletes them for good.

If something goes wrong

Each row is what you see on screen. Symptoms are worded the way the app words them, so the sentence in front of you should be findable on this page.

A file was refused as too large

Ten megabytes is the per-file ceiling. Compress it, or put it somewhere else and keep a note of the link.

It says an item can hold ten files

That is the cap. Split the set across two items — there is no way to raise it from here.

The save failed on a big upload

A whole set close to the limit is a large request and a slow connection can time out. Try fewer files at a time; nothing partial is stored when a save fails.

Files disappeared after an edit

Editing replaces the whole set, so anything removed from the list before saving is deleted. There is no undo — the deletion happens only after the save succeeds, but once it has, the bytes are gone.

The files item is missing from your export

Deliberate: the export is JSON, and it could only carry the file names rather than the files. Download the attachments individually.

There is no Share option on a files card

Only notes and checklists can be shared by link. A file sits behind your sign-in and stays there.
