Stop texts by texting STOP

Before you start

• Nothing. STOP works from the handset, with no sign-in and no account page.

Steps

1. Text STOP to your BrainSack number

   The whole message has to be the word STOP — nothing else in it. Capitals do not matter and stray spaces are ignored.

   A message that merely *contains* the word is an ordinary note. stop buying oat milk lands on your board like anything else, which is the point: the alternative is a note silently turned into an account change.

2. Expect no reply from us

   We send nothing back. Confirming an opt-out is the carrier’s job, and a message of our own would be one more text to somebody who has just asked for none. Your carrier or our messaging provider may send a confirmation of their own; that is theirs, not ours.

3. Check the Phone page if you want to see it landed

   Sign in and open Phone. Your number is empty, and Texting in says “Not assigned yet”. That is the honest state — with no number registered, there is nothing to route.

What happens next

• That number is opted out and removed from the account. We keep a record of the opt-out itself, including the date and the exact opt-in wording it revoked — that record is the point of it.
• Texting in stops, and so does anything we would have texted out.
• Nothing on the board changes. Notes that arrived by text, tags, files, everything: all still there, and the app works normally without a number.

If something goes wrong

Each row is what you see on screen. Symptoms are worded the way the app words them, so the sentence in front of you should be findable on this page.

You texted CANCEL or UNSUBSCRIBE and nothing happened

Only STOP opts out here. Every other keyword is a word somebody might genuinely text themselves, so we treat them as notes. Your carrier may act on them at its own level regardless.

You meant to write a note beginning with the word stop

Only a message that is *nothing but* STOP counts, so a real sentence is safe. If you did send a bare STOP by mistake, add your number again on the Phone page.

You want to start again

Add the number back on the Phone page. It collects a fresh agreement and re-assigns a BrainSack number. Nothing blocks this — the rule is that we do not text somebody who said stop, not that they can never ask again.

You re-added the number and messages still do not arrive

Our messaging provider keeps a suppression list of its own, and only you can clear it — text START to the number that was texting you. A fresh agreement on our side does not override it.

You texted STOP and want your notes deleted too

STOP is about messaging only. To have the account and its contents removed, email us — and consider exporting your data first.

• Register your phone number — Add your mobile to your account so you can text notes in. Takes a consent box, a one-time code and about two minutes.
