Pin, archive and delete

Before you start

• An item on the board. Every control below is on the card itself.

Steps

1. Find the card’s actions

   Hover a card (or focus it with the keyboard) and a small row of buttons appears in its header: edit, archive, and ⋯ for everything else. On a touch screen they are always visible, since there is no hover to reveal them with.

2. Pin what you are working on

   Pin is in the ⋯ menu. Pinned items get their own section at the top of the board, above everything else, whatever the sort order says.

   The card says so twice over — a marked border and a PINNED badge — which is why the control does not need a permanent seat in the header.

3. Archive what is done

   The archive button takes it off the board and into the Archive view. Nothing is lost: tags, files and text all stay exactly as they were.

   This is the one to reach for. It is reversible, and the counts in the rail keep it honest.

4. Restore from the archive

   Open Archive from the rail. The same button in the card header now reads *Restore to sack* and puts it back where it came from.

5. Delete only when you mean it

   Deleting is permanent and there is no undo. For an item with files, the files go with it.

   By default you are asked to confirm. That confirmation can be switched off in Settings, which is worth leaving on.

What happens next

• Pinned items sit in their own section at the top of every view except Pinned itself and the archive.
• Archived items are out of the board, out of its counts, and still in your export.
• Deleted items are gone, along with any files attached to them.

If something goes wrong

Each row is what you see on screen. Symptoms are worded the way the app words them, so the sentence in front of you should be findable on this page.

You archived something by mistake

Open Archive from the rail and restore it. Nothing about it changed while it was in there.

You deleted something by mistake

There is no recovery. If the item was a note or a checklist and you have taken an export since, the file is the only copy — which is the argument for taking one occasionally.

“Delete all” in the archive

It does exactly that, permanently, to everything archived. It asks first. There is no way back from it.

Pinning does not seem to move the card

Look at the top of the board for the Pinned section rather than at the card. In the Pinned view and in the archive nothing splits out, because there would be nothing to split it from.

Archiving did not free up storage

It is not meant to — archiving keeps the files precisely because it is reversible. Deleting the item is what removes them.
